Mount & Blade: Warband
« on: March 29, 2010, 08:15:31 PM »
Hey,

First off, it appears that you are the only company to host Warband servers. Before I do order a server from anyone I have a few questions...

1) I have a vent server with maxfrag. I see you also host Ventrilo servers, therefore if I buy a M&B:W server along with a Vent server will I get a discount like other hosts?

2) We (nK Clan) were in some of your servers, and there is a player who lives in Connecticutt. How come he has a higher ping in a New York server then a Chicago server when Chicago is further away?

Thanks,
Styo

The price for the vent servers are as low as I can go since I do not make money off them, it's simply for people to buy everything at one place.  Maxfrag to my knowledge is a good vent provider so if they are also less money you might want to stay with them.

I have no answer for number two without a tracert or pathping.  All of our locations utilize intelligent routing and border gateway protocol.  The increase in ping for that one person could be explained by either his internet provider or one of the hops to the server being redirected temporarily.

Sounds good, but how would I edit the .txt file if I want to change somthing with the server?

Also the Cores? its 4 or 8? Are they Processor cores?

The servers have 2 processors with 4 cores each.   These free ones come with 4 but for $10 a month you can put 8 core affinity on it.
You can edit the files either via the default file editor, the web file manager, or via ftp.
You get much more control over your server with me :) you can also change the command line.

I see that.. I got a server with the promo code... Im at work so I dont know how the pings are and such... But with everything else I am very satisfied. Very.

Question tho, I got a NY server but if I want to change it to Chicago what would need to happen? (Just Wondering)

Although this doesnt seem to work...;

Edit: Says it will work after 15 min of server being up, so its just a matter of waiting..

Hey there.

The server seems to work and the control panel is quite nice. I had one problem with starting the server "sample_Battle.txt" instead of just "sample.txt", but that might have just been my inexperience. I think it is a good idea to give possible new customers a chance to test the servers and from what I have seen until now, it looks legit.

However I'm still not really sure if it is legit and I don't want to risk my billing details. I wouldn't know what else you could do to prove that you are legit, I guess we would just have to give it a try. Maybe you could clear up something about your name, though. Is Jest your real or in-game name from a past game? Because honestly, it isn't the best name for an unknown server-hoster in my opinion. ;)

Well I applaud your knowledge, as to my knowledge I don't think anyone has even done research on what Jest means.
The dictionary use to have "something to cause amusement, an act of entertainment, a joke"
Merriam Webster's definition is not so nice :)

It's explained in my About page, towards the bottom with my bio.  It was my high school nick name, license plate, and in game name.

As for billing details you don't have to worry as I use paypal, you are forwarded to paypal.com to process your payment or google checkout if you want.  I never see any of your billing information.  Less work for me, more security for you.
You can also just google jestservers and see what pops up, been around for a while now.

The game-monitor is there since most my games support it, but it seems mount and blade warband does not, yet.

You can switch locations at any time for free, especially with Warband being such a small install.
If you wanted to switch every location in one day thats fine.  Hopefully not something done daily, but if you want a world tour-de-server would be fine :)

If you could get them to post a tracert or pathping.
Without it not much I can do.
If I don't respond fast enough on here, just send me an email on the contact page, usually reply less than 15 minutes.

Wow, that's lower than mine in my Dallas location.
ISP makes all the difference, my friend lives about 40 miles from my Dallas server, and I live about 4 miles.  He gets 10ms or so, I get 30.  Not fair :| .
